Squires Kitchen Exhibition 2017 – All of the Cakes!
This weekend I took my annual trip to The Maltings in Farnham for the 2017 Squires Kitchen Exhibition. As always the competition standards were incredibly high and there were some amazing show cakes and demonstrations to see.
The show was opened on Saturday morning by royal icing legend Eddie Spence MBE, who unfortunately wasn’t able to demonstrate or judge at this year’s show due to illness.
As usual both Squires Kitchen themselves and a number of other sugarcraft suppliers were selling and demonstrating their products at the show.
Karen Taylor was demonstrating her super cute sugar dough animals and the lovely Natasha Collins was demonstrating her range of paints and printed wafer paper that she did for Squires.
Over the weekend many brilliant authors such as Mark Tilling and Alan Dunn helped man the book stand, giving advice and signing copies of their books.
There was also a brilliant display of cakes on show by some of the Squires Kitchen tutors. I absolutely loved these little models by Laura Dodimead and this wedding cake!
As well as the exhibition stands there was also the opportunity to see many big names such as Carlos Lischetti demonstrating in the Long Kiln room. The queues to get a seat in the free demos were huge and there were people squeezed into ever corner of the room desperate to see Carlos and Mark Tilling do their thing.
Then as well as all of that excitement there was also the wedding cake showroom, full of amazing, works of art!
These were just a few of my favourites!

Lastly, there was of course the competition galleries. This year there were 7 classes to enter. As always I entered the cupcake class, for the 5th year in a row and as always I ran out of time and didn’t actually get around to starting my entry until lunchtime the day before! So I was obviously incredibly happy to find out that I had won third place! These were my ‘food glorious food cupcakes’.
