Filthy Dirty Vegan – My Forthcoming Book!

Those of you who know me, will know that I was actually a freelance journalist before I starting making cakes and I have wanted to write a book for years. So I’m sure you will understand that I am beyond excited to tell you that I have finally made a start on my first book!

The main thing stopping me from doing it before now was that I just couldn’t decide on a good theme in what is an already very saturated baking cook book market. Since I started baking and writing recipes a few years ago, I have always preferred to write free-from recipes as having discovered that I was allergic to milk around 13 years ago, I know exactly how frustrating and difficult it can be when you aren’t able to eat certain food groups. So free-from baking has always been an option I have thought about. However, having seen how popular my vegan baking demos have been at the Foodies Festivals and how many nice messages I’ve had about my vegan Victoria sponge recipe, I decided that this was the niche market I was looking for!

A lot of vegan cook books tend to focus on healthy, raw recipes, which is absolutely fine (because let’s face it that is what we should all be eating really) but I on the other hand am all about the cheat days! Just because someone thinks it’s morally wrong to eat animal products, or has a dairy or egg allergy, doesn’t mean that they don’t crave delicious unhealthy baked goods the same as everyone else! So Filthy Dirty Vegan will be a collection of indulgent, sinful, calorific and downright filthy, vegan cake, dessert & sweet treat recipes. Cakes, cheesecakes, tarts, fudge, meringues and all the other good stuff, but veganised!

Once I had made the decision that this is going to be the book that I am going to write, I started looking at my options and after a lot of deliberation, I’ve decided to self-publish the book. It will still be a proper full colour, glossy hardback book that will be available on Amazon, but this way I get far more control over everything.

So I have set up a Kickstarter campaign to essentially take pre-orders and try and raise £5000. Raising this amount of money will allow me to do 3 important things:

  • Know that people actually want the book and that I’m not about to waste the next 6 months of my life perfecting and photographing recipes for no reason.
  • Allow me to place an initial order for at least 300 copies, which will ensure that I can get a better deal on printing costs and keep the retail price down.
  • Allow me to use the profit on these pre-sales to buy the equipment, props and ingredients I need to be able to complete the book.
